Why Are Square Fiberglass Tubes Resistant To Rust?

When selecting piping for engineering projects, many people are concerned about whether the material is prone to rusting. The reason fiberglass (FRP) square tubes offer superior corrosion resistance lies primarily in their composition, which differs from that of traditional steel materials.

Ordinary steel pipes are composed mainly of metal; exposure to air, moisture, and corrosive agents often triggers surface oxidation, leading to rust. Consequently, steel piping typically requires anti-rust and anti-corrosion treatments when used in humid or corrosive environments.

In contrast, fiberglass square tubes are primarily composed of glass fiber and resin. They are not metallic materials in the traditional sense and do not develop rust like ordinary steel. By selecting the appropriate resin system, these tubes can be engineered to withstand specific corrosive environments, such as those involving acids, alkalis, or salts.

However, it is important to note that "resistance to rust" does not mean the material is immune to degradation in all environments. Fiberglass materials may still experience changes in performance when subjected to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, high temperatures, highly corrosive agents, or mechanical damage.

Therefore, when selecting fiberglass square tubes, one should choose a product suited to the specific operating environment and ensure proper installation and maintenance to maximize the product's service life.
